Abbey Clancy, 37, enjoys a family day out to Thorpe Park with rarely seen lookalike sister Elle, 26 There’s a small part of me that was uncomfortable reading about the colonial aspects of plundering and acquisition even though that was historically correct. I hate element of British history, our museums are still full of antiquities that are not ‘ours’.

A marvelous debut—imaginative, ambitious, and begging to be savored." — Sarah Penner, New York Times bestselling author of The Last Apothecary Great British Bake Off 2023: Sixth contestant to leave is announced after screwing up Technical challenge Loved, loved, loved it! Pandora is one of those rare stories that draws you in with beguiling imagery, the promise of magic and mystery - Bridgerton meets Greek mythology. Pandora Blake whose heart's desire is to become a designer of jewellery and Edward Lawrence, a bookbinder in Georgian London both have dark and tragic secrets, and a passion for antiquities that draws them slowly into a tangle of conspiracy., theft, murder and ambition. At the centre of the story is a Greek jar, older than history. that whispers and torments those who seek to misuse it. As for Edward, his story is fairly moving in places and he comes across as shy and unassuming. He is caring and kind-hearted, although he does become a bit too over-protective of Dora as his feelings for her grow. If you were instead hoping for Edward to be involved in a romance with his friend and benefactor Cornelius - as is heavily implied at the start - then you will be left disappointed.A book about archelogy and greek mythology? Yes, please. I was intrigued by the blurb about a mysterious greek vase (could this be the famed Pandora's vase?) and the book was ok. I did find the story to drag now and then and it was a bit predictable with the romance and who's good and who's bad. Actually, my favourite character was Cornelis, Edwards's best friend. I found his story to be most tragic and I would have loved him to take a more central place instead of the usual pairing of a young woman meets a dashing young man and the usual cliché romance. Not that I disliked Dora and Edward, but it's the usual pairing and I do like more memorable characters. Her car and suitcase were found abandoned but there was no trace of the author. These scant facts spin out into a scintillating, speculative tale that takes in lost love, revenge, Irish mother-and-baby homes and a double murder at an upmarket spa in Harrogate. I also love books with a central female character who doesn’t bow down to men & stays focused on bettering herself against the odds, especially in a time when women were expected to do as they were told! Again, Pandora lives up to my expectations in this regard. I was hugely invested in Dora’s story & was intrigued to discover the truth behind her uncle’s underhand dealings. But when they discover the secrets about the case, Dora’s entire life turns upside down. Anything she knows about her life, her past, her family is questionable! It seems like some things should be buried forever! This was a superb debut, easy to read and not overtly historical-heavy. Dora the explorer (look someone had to say it) made for great reading and I’d jump on another release from this author.

THIS BOOK IS GOING TO BE BRILLIANT. I've had an opportunity to read an exclusive extract and I'm so thankful for that because it may be one of my favourite books of 2022. Everything seems perfect here - the writing is outstandingly beautiful and descriptive, you can really FEEL the atmosphere and the tension that's coming. I cannot wait to read the full version, I already miss the characters. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is that I don't want to be disappointed later on and lower my rating because of that. But, MARK THIS NOVEL AS YOUR TBR! You won't regret it for sure! Viewers say graphic violence on post-watershed TV is now the 'norm'... but portrayal of sex has become fairer to women However the vase isn’t what it seems and what they discover has Dora questioning everything about her life, her family, and the world as she knows it. Pandora by Susan Stokes-Chapman Review: My Opinion

The author does well to capture the villainy of some of the characters too: I definitely saw one of the characters as a Vernon Dursley type from HP and it was so easy to despise him! All of it is written in the third person, focusing on the three separate perspectives of Dora, Edward, and Hezekiah. This worked well and brought a good degree of contrast, with the tone of Hezekiah's chapters noticeably darker than the others and providing more of an insight into his motives. Also, the storylines of Dora and Edward compliment each other nicely as they are both enduring difficult lives until they meet. Dora's deepest desire is to make a living as a jewelry designer. Reading about her designs was fascinating. Beautifully written with a gripping story and characters who are well drawn and complex, I absolutely loved this. Katie Fforde
