About this deal

To put this into perspective, the Lumea 9000 flashes once every 2 seconds – that’s nearly double the length of time between each flash with the Advanced model. When treating small areas of the body like the armpits, this won’t make a huge difference, however, it took me a whopping 27 minutes to treat one leg using the Lumea Advanced, compared with 18 minutes using the Lumea 9000. Both devices have 5 intensity levels to choose from depending on your skin tone. 1 is low and 5 is high. Press the power button to cycle through the levels.

To see longer-term hair removal in these areas, I’ll likely have to continue with fortnightly treatments for a while longer. That’s good enough for me, though, as the armpit treatments only take around two minutes, so it’s much easier to fit into a busy schedule. For extra safety the integrated skin tone sensor measures the treated skin complexion at the beginning of each session and occasionally during the session. If it detects a skin tone that is too dark for this product it will automatically stop emitting pulses. Objective studies show up to 85% hair reduction in as little as 3 treatments***. The first 4 treatments must be carried out every 2 weeks, after which you should already be able to see the desired results. To maintain your results, simply touch up every 4 weeks. After just 8 touch up treatments you can enjoy hair-free smooth skin for at least 12 months**. Both devices work in the same way. Place the window flush against your skin and press the flash button. After it flashes, move it the height of the flash window to the next spot and flash again. You can keep the flash button pressed for continuous flashes as you glide the window along your skin. All Prestige and Advanced models have the large body and a small face flash window. Some Advanced models also have the precision window for bikini and underarms. And some Prestige models have either a seperate bikini and underarms window, or the dual bikini and underarms precision window.

If you’re looking to get effective, comfortable IPL hair removal on a budget, the Lumea Advanced is a great option, especially if you’re only treating smaller areas of your body. I say this because larger areas of the body take a long time to treat; two full legs take almost an hour, which is a huge amount of time to spend. Fast Treatment: Treat only every two weeks for the first 6 weeks (vs. weekly of other brands), then touch up monthly to maintain the results.

The face attachment has been thoughtfully designed to have a small, flat 2 cm2 window so you can effectively and gently treat hair on your face. Ideal for your upper lip, chin or jawline and sideburns, the attachment also has an extra filter integrated within. When added to the device, the intelligent attachment automatically adapts the light treatment for your face. Alongside this, the Lumea Advanced is corded, which means you lose out on the cordless convenience offered by the Lumea 9000. Still, the cord is 192cm long, which is plenty enough to manoeuvre around your body during treatments. It’s also much lighter than the cordless version, weighing nearly 200g less than its cordless counterpart. It’s important to note that I have dark brown hair and light skin, which means I’m the ideal subject for IPL hair removal. That’s because light colours reflect light and heat, whereas dark colours absorb it; the lighter your skin is and the darker your hair is, the better the intense light pulses will be at damaging the hair. The IPL Advanced is the most affordable Lumea device in the Philips range, which means you don’t get any fancy design features to make the treatment faster and easier. However, at its core, the IPL treatment is the same and is just as effective at reducing hair long-term as the more expensive models. It’s designed to be used every two weeks for the first four weeks and, if we’re being honest, the big gaps make it easier to forget when you last treated limbs, so we found it helpful to set a reminder in our calendar.IPL is an effective, long-term hair removal method you can do from the comfort of your home. After years of having to save up for laser hair removal, products like the Philips Lumea IPL Advanced have now brought this treatment to the consumer market. There’s a slight warm sensation for settings one to four, but by five it’s hot with a bit of a pinch – but not so uncomfortable we had to stop at any point. For bigger areas like our legs, we held it down flat and glided the device over our skin, but for our underarms, we used a stamp-like motion to press, let it flash, lift off and place down on a different area. Both devices have similar white and metallic rose-gold styling. They also have the same exceptional materials and build quality you expect from Philips. Attractive, quality materials & build, rose-gold & white styling. I love the air-vent flower pattern on top of the Advanced (right). Treat both lower legs in just 15 minutes, bikini area in 4 minutes and facial area in only 2 minutes! The Philips Lumea Prestige and Lumea Advanced IPL use intense pulsed light energy (IPL) to damage and disable your hair follicles, slowing and then stopping hair regrowth. Periodic top-up treatments keep your skin smooth. Learn more about how home IPL works here.

However, the speed of flashes between the two devices is very different. And sessions are considerably faster with the Prestige.Use the Prestige for 4 or 5 sessions, 1 every 2 weeks (taking up to 8 weeks) to get smooth skin. A whole-body session takes around 40 minutes. With the Lumea Prestige the flashes come every 2 seconds (used corded). On the highest intensity level, I can do a thorough full leg in around 10 mins, and my full body in under 40 mins. I score all at-home devices 5-stars for lamp lifetime when they give enough flashes for 15+years of monthly whole-body sessions. They get top marks because it’s many more flashes than you’ll ever need. So, although the 450,000 flashes Prestige sounds far better than the 250,000 flashes model, in reality you’ll never run out with either model.
