About this deal
Asus GT-AXE16000: Extra detailed photos Out of the box, Asus GT AXE16000 includes an oversized power adapter — the same as the GT-AXE11000 — and a CAT6A cable. This light design makes the new router a perfect match for the ZenWiFi Pro ET12 in a Multi-Gig wired backhauling mesh system, which is a different topic. My understanding of ASUS mesh is that you wire from router 1GB port to wan port of the satellite in wired mode.
Overall, this made little sense as last year’s model of this router, the Asus ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000 WiFi 6E, garnered a speedier 125 fps under identical conditions.
And for smart home owners with multiple mesh nodes and the need for a large number of devices, which of the two would be your recommendation? The performance on the 160MHz band is really impressive as well, bringing it really close to the speed of a physical Ethernet LAN cable over Wi-Fi even after 2 walls.
The GT-AXE16000 uses a horizontal design in a larger body, which has become Asus’ design formula for its flagship routers. Other than the web user interface, which I recommend, you can also use the Asus mobile app for the GT-AXE16000's setup process and ongoing management.
This card is Wi-Fi 6, meaning that it lacks Wi-Fi 6E so we cannot test the 6 GHz throughput which promises faster speeds with less interference.
